High Iron
United States
Приєднався 23 вер 2013
High Iron aims to promote the very best and most interesting qualities of the railroad industry. Compared to other methods of transportation that we as modern dwellers are accustomed to, rail is perhaps the most underappreciated and misunderstood, and we counteract that by showing what trains do, how they work, why they’re important, and why we love them so much.

The United States Already Tried High Speed Rail
Переглядів 144 тис.Рік тому
Of course, the US's high speed trains of yesteryear could never have matched the networks of today. But there was once a time when all of the country's corners were closely held together by the fastest transportation over land, and with zero taxpayer involvement. Five Things To Understand About Amtrak
Interesting. Had the federal government provided subsidies to keep passenger rail service operating and allowed some flexibility with the carriers to adjust service with demand, rail service in America might have been in much better shape today. Japan and Europe took that path around the same time the US passenger rail services collapsed and look at where they are now.

14:15 When are you going to do a video on the Norfolk and Western Railroad? From its introduction, to the big 3 to the merger with the Southern Railway and the legacy the N&W left behind?
You ask me, Kalypso should make a campaign based on BN's story right up until the creation of BNSF.
I live along a potential HSR rail line from Chicago to NYC, as cool as it would be to have that done, it would hurt Frieght traffic, and its so expensive to upgrade those lines to HSR, not to mention Electrification of that stretch of track. Billions or trillions of dollars
honestly i prefer train travel as its safer then cars or planes especially what is going on with boeing and such
so uh, did you die?
If I could hop on a train here in Dayton and go to Cleveland or Indianapolis, or even Pittsburgh, I'd do that on the weekend for sure
Why was double or triple expansion engines (as used in ships) never applied to locomotives?
17:58 “much more power would go to the cylinders and-“ *demonic noises*
What simulation software do you use for the trains
😊 amazing engineering
How do I do a free play Wonder
Fun fact: Santa Fe 347C was at times operated by the father of camous radio host "Shotgun Tom" Kelly
Any chance you could do a video on the Sister train to the Comet, the Bullet?
9010 be like: ALCO
It is NOT June-E-Atta it is wa-neet-ah Juanita
Yeah
There is a major non-sense in this video. Duplex locomotive were incented decades earlier in France, in 1863. When baldwin produced its first one, they were common in France. The reason why the US were so late is that they didn't need them : they had enough coal but were lacking workforce. France had the exact opposite situation : wages were cheaper than coal, so we could afford extra maintenance to gain more power per coal unit.
Very well done story using models, Brian! Nice looking layout as well. 😊
the charm of choo choo is unquestionable
The T1s were very good despite wheel slips but at least 10 of them should have been painted Tuscan Red so that they would be the preferred engines for the Broadway Limited while the rest would have hauled other passenger trains. Plus the Tuscan Red units would have been numbered #5500-5509
What happened? Brian seems to have disappeared off the face of the planet.
They who rebuild those museum pieces should definatley learn SOMETHING from from NYC 4-8-4 "Niagra"-classes!..
What's the name of the song at 5:17? It just fits so well with the entire chase sequence before Skeet dumps the air.
n&w 1218 was scheduled to pull a excursion to huntsville alabama but tennessee valley railroad 610 took in cause 1218 has to have some work done.
Haven't watched the video yet but I assume they failed is because they look too cool
Were there any US steam locomotives that weren't capable of ^cruising at over 100mph"?
A lot, actually, if not close enough.
GREAT VIDEO!😎
Americans have a weakness for overcomplicating things, rather than trying an alternative solution.
Surely there are more contemporary videos available that would have avoided the need to resort to so many cartoon animations?
Bruh, stop being a baby. It fine.
I love how you can undeniably make out the typical German cab design, with the slanted sides and windscreen.
AND they actually made a movie about it! In... 1929 by buster keaton and its called the general! Best train movie ever definitely recomend watching
Bro come back please I loved your uploads
I've watched this ep quite a a few times and have always felt that the line at 16:28 would have been better written "This never would've happened if you kept your smokebox out of your cistern!" to be... train accurate.
What program did you use to make the CGI trains?
I’m dead
It’s already been one year. He still hasn’t posted a single video.
RF-16s are such a neat design as well as the Centipedes. Shame the Centipedes fell flat on their face, no pun intended, and the RF-16s only seen limited success. I wish the shark nose styling could have continued.
Don't tell this to the group that are building one. That will be very upset 😡.
Dynamic brakes were an exra-cost option on Alco and EMD locomotives all the way to the end of Alco, and all the way to the 60-series for EMD, though it would be 30 Missouri Pacific GP50s that would be the last units ordered without dynamic brakes.
Tbh you sound like the person who commentates in every Thomas & Friends Episode
Amtrak needs to focus on corridor service. And it needs to operate on dedicated pax tracks that freight trains don’t use.
If only they could build a steam electric.
I met a guy who was working on closed steam with microwave heating at canterbury university. Not sure how it went but I don't see them everywhere. That was 25 years ago
@@bennichols1113 remember maximum torque with one revolution. Any RPM
My friend models the W&A in 1863. Fascinating railroad with or without the GLC. ua-cam.com/video/eM7Ljhl3RrQ/v-deo.html
"We waited 8 months for this?" Funniest line in the whole episode
this game is so much fun to play, far far better than even OTTD, but maaan its butt ugly. Just drab grey pre-rendered and extremely visually unappealing
8:52 hank hills favorite moment
11:48 That cracked me up
High speed rail is the talk of the town here in the DFW Metroplex. Japan Rail wants to sell us Shinkansen equipment to run between Dallas and Houston. Everything is still not certain and there has been pushback from landowners along the proposed ROW. Fort Worth wants to be included in the plans, but that's not a guarantee that we'll see HSR in Fort Worth.
